Description

The Stinger VenomBlue high-performance coated mortise compression router bits are designed for exceptionally fast feed rates and long tool life. These bits are specially designed to be used on production CNC routers for panel processing in kitchen cabinet and closet manufacturing as well as general millwork applications.

The design of a compression router bit features a combination of both an up and down spiral, resulting in clean cuts both the top and bottom edges a variety of materials. On a mortise compression cutter, the upcut geometry is only .188”, allowing you to use this tool to create dados as shallow of .25”. This can be useful if you are short on space in your CNC machines tool tray or don’t have an automatic tool changer CNC.

The cutting edge of this mortise compression cutter offers chip breakers, making it the perfect choice for Plywood core materials. When using a standard compression cutter on plywood, you will notice long, stringy chips in your dust collection and will find the edge of the plywood gets torn out instead of a nice clean cut. The segmented flute design breaks the chips up into smaller pieces, creating a fantastic edge for plywood core materials.

While you may find it inconvenient to have multiple cutting bits in your tooling line up, using the right bit for the job will increase tool life and result in lower tooling costs long term.

The Stinger Mortice compression cutters come equipped with our VenomBlue coating. This AlTiSiN-B coating acts like a lubricant and drastically reduces the friction between cutter and material. When your feedrate and RPM are optimized, this coating can extend the tool life by up to 5x when comparing to the uncoated alternatives. With the combination of the VenomBlue coating and the extremely high quality KCR05+ German carbide, these high quality bits offer the superb cut quality of a two flute bit, while offering the high cutting speed of a three flute bit.

Material: High Quality German NanoGrain KCR05+ Carbide (97% Tungsten Carbide, 3% Cobalt)

VenomBlue’s NanoGrain carbide grade is known for extremely high hardness and superior wear resistance. KCR05+ is selected for its ability to maintain a sharp edge under high thermal stress and abrasive conditions. With a grain size of less than 2 nanometers, this carbide structure has a higher hardness than almost all other competing carbide bits available that normally feature a grain size of 0.5 – 0.8 nanometers.

  • Grain Size: < 0.2 μm
  • Hardness: 94.4 ~ 94.5
  • Density: 15.25 g/cm3
  • This premium tool material is designed for use at high speeds.
  • Recommended 20,000 RPM with feed rate of 28-34m/m

KCR05+ has an extremely high hardness however offers very little flexibility. Any instability, vibration, or improper setup may easily result in tool breakage.

Runout inspection before machining is very important. Ensuring proper installation and alignment provides a more stable working environment for the tool and helps minimize potential issues during cutting, while also improving tool performance and lifespan. When using ER collets, we recommend maintaining the runout within 10 μm (0.01 mm) If the measured runout exceeds this limit, we recommend immediately replacing the collet.

Coating: AlTiSiN-B (Aluminum Titanium Silicon Nitride with Boron)

An advanced PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating designed for extreme high-speed, dry-cutting, and hard-machining applications, offering superior hardness, thermal stability and oxidation resistance. It often outperforms standard AlTiN and AlTiSiN coatings by providing enhanced lubrication, lower friction, and higher wear resistance.

  • Enhanced Performance: The inclusion of Silicon (forms a nanocomposite structure, increasing hardness, while Boron (improves lubricating properties and reduces the wear rate.
  • High Thermal Stability: Withstands high temperatures, making it ideal for dry cutting and preventing edge deformation in hard materials.
  • Increased Productivity: Allows for faster cutting speeds and higher feed rates, resulting in reduced machining time and lower costs.

Specifications:

  • Cutting Depth: 7/8″
  • Oxidation Temperature: 1100 Deg. C
  • Surface Hardness (HV): 3500
  • Friction Coefficient: 0.45
  • Coating Thickness (μm): 1~4
  • Extends tool life up to 5x compared to an uncoated tool
